Adoption Policy
Availability
Rats from Moomoo Rattery are pets, it is rare that feeders are available. There may be a wait up to 2 months as we are small scale to ensure every baby gets daily socialization. Availability is posted on social media.
Adoption/Transport Fee
The adoption fee is $30 per rat. This covers serology testing, time spent socializing and litter training babies before they go to homes, and flea/tick/mite preventative. Rescues and newer lines are less, as health and temperament are not guaranteed. Pet homes sign a no breeding contract. Transport is available up to 2 hours from Central Falls, RI for $20-50. The morning of scheduled transportation, a $20 delivery deposit is required and is not refundable for no-shows or last minute cancellations.
Life happens! Once a day is set for pickup/delivery, you are allowed one post-pone up to 7 days if given a 24 hour notice. If after that, you still can’t retrieve your rats, the rats will go to the next adopter and the deposit will not be refunded. Rats will not be held for more than 7 days after pickups begin without another deposit.
Application
An approved application is required of every adopter. Find it on the home page. The order of reservations go in the order of applications received. The sooner you apply, the bigger pick you get of the litter. Breeders do not have to fill out the same application or pay the application fee, please message me.
Reservations
After being approved, reservations will be held between the rats’ age of 3-5 weeks. We will reach out to those with approved applications at that time with photos/videos of available rats and the adopter will chose from that list. Once chosen, the adopter will sign the Rat Adoption Agreement, a separate form from the application, and pay $30 reservation fee to hold chosen rats. A signed adoption contract and deposit are required within 24 hours of us reaching out about your time to reserve before we move on to the next applicant. Reservation fee goes towards final adoption fee. It is NOT refundable for no-shows or cancellations. If the rats you reserved become unavailable because of illness, death, or any other reason caused by Moomoo Rattery, this is the only case where we'll make an exception to our non-refundable deposit policy.
A photo of your cage fully set up must be sent with a piece of paper that has your name and the date written on it at time of reservation. We reserve the right to deny a previously approved applicant if the rat cage is not suitable for baby rats. The adopter will have until the date of sale to fix any discrepancies.
Adopter Criteria
We do not sell to individuals under 18 years of age, a parent must apply for you. Photo ID will be verified.
Rats will NOT be adopted to homes with paper bedding, glass tanks, small cages, cages with bar spacing greater than .5", children under 5 years of age, immunocompromised housemates, or any other reason we deem necessary.
Rats will be adopted in at least a pair. Rats do not go to homes until they are 6 weeks old. I highly recommend a 14 day quarantine if you have resident rats to ensure stress and spread of illness is minimized. Know of a vet who treats rats near you before you adopt and have an emergency fund. Please research proper rat care and ask me any questions you may have!

Being untruthful on your application or contract will lead to you being blacklisted and put on a "Do Not Sell" list available to all local breeders. I care about the homes the animals that I raise go to.
