Adoption Policy

Availability

Rats from Moomoo Rattery are pets, not feeders. There may be a wait up to 4 months as we are small scale (1-3 litters at a time) to ensure every baby gets one-on-one socialization. Availability and waitlist updates are posted on social media.

  • Dwarves: $70 each (minimum 2)

    **
Pet homes sign a NO BREEDING contract.

•Transport:  $50+

$20 delivery deposit required by morning of scheduled transport, and is not refundable for no-shows or last minute cancellations.

Rats must be picked up within 7 days of the start of pickups. After 7 days another deposit is required.

Application

An approved application is required of every adopter. Find it on the home page. The order of reservations go in the order of applications received. The sooner you apply, the bigger pick you get of the litter. Breeders do not have to apply, message me. An application does not guarantee you will be approved. There is a nonrefundable $5 application fee.

Reservations

Reservations are held between the rats’ age of 4-6 weeks. We will text approved applicants at that time with photos/videos of available rats. The text begins 24 hours to:
•Send photo of cage setup
•Choose rats

•Sign the Rat Adoption Agreement

•Pay $35 reservation fee

Then we move on to the next applicant. Reservation fee goes towards final adoption fee. It is NOT refundable for no-shows or cancellations. If the rats you reserved become unavailable because of illness, death, or any other reason caused by Moomoo Rattery, this is the only case where we'll make an exception to our non-refundable deposit policy.

Photo of cage setup must be sent with your name and date visible. We reserve the right to deny a previously approved applicant if the cage is not suitable for baby rats. The adopter will have until the date of sale to fix any discrepancies.

Adopter Criteria

We do not sell to individuals that:

  • are under 18 years of age, a parent must apply for you. Photo ID will be verified.

  • fail a basic background check (Facebook, matching applicant name to the card you pay with)

  • do not have an emergency vet fund (exotic vets are more expensive than dog/cat vets!)

    • Ask me for a list of local exotic vets!

Rats will NOT be adopted to homes with:

  • paper bedding or fleece as only substrate (Carefresh, newspaper)

  • glass tanks, small cages, wooden cages, cages with bar spacing greater than 1/2" or wire floors

  • children under 5 years old

  • immunocompromised housemates, or any other reason we deem necessary.

First time rat owners are welcome, if you do not know what is best, I will happily send recommendations. I have blogs on basic rat care you can read up on before applying, it will help with the application questions.

Being untruthful on your application or contract will lead to you being blacklisted and put on a "Do Not Sell" list available to all local breeders. I care about the homes the animals that I raise go to.
